Holmarc's HO-IAD-CAM-01 is a compact and cost effective CCD based instrument for measuring contact angles of liquids in research laboratories. The instrument makes use of a CCD sensor for imaging the droplet. The CCD sensor inputs images and data to a computer for further analysis.

A micrometer actuated linear stage is used to precisely control the dispensing of the fluid from the syringe to an undisturbed fine drop. CCD sensor and imaging optical assembly are mounted on translation and tilt stage for fine adjustment of image position on the sensor. The dispensing system which consists of syringe along with linear stage is held on a vertical translator for initial setting of the distance of the needle from the solid surface. The solid surface holder is provided with kinematic tilt adjustments for leveling and vertical height adjustments for initial setting control. In addition to these adjustments, it can also be rotated in horizontal plane by a precision rotation stage with 30 degree range. Back light is provided by a high bright LED. The illumination intensity of the back light can be controlled.

The instrument is compact and rigid and has leveling screws for stable setting on any platform. All surfaces have black finish to avoid unwanted reflections of light during measurements.

Contact angle is the angle formed by a liquid at the phase boundary where a liquid, gas and solid intersect. The shape of the drop is controlled by the three forces of interfacial tension. Static Angle and Advancing Angle are quantitative measures of the wetting of a solid by the liquid, but they can also be used as a quality control measure in surface treatments and surface cleanliness. Receding Angle is a quantitative measure of the adhesion of a solid to a liquid.

The user can choose from a wide range of temperature from 30°C to 100°C for the most diverse applications.
Motorized Syringe pump for dispensing.
The user can use motorized syringe pump instead of manual syringe pump for dispensing liquids on to the test base. The dispensing rate, volume etc can be precisely controlled using the software provided with it.
