The spectral quantum efficiency measurement system is designed to rapidly and precisely assess the external quantum efficiency of various photovoltaic devices, such as solar cells, photodetectors, and other photosensitive structures. It operates across a wide range of external voltages and temperatures. Additionally, the system accurately measures the spectral sensitivity of photoelectric devices (such as photodiodes and photocells) across 360 - 1100 nm wavelength range. It comes with software that automates the measurement process and supports both continuous and pulsed illumination scenarios.

The spectral responsivity or quantum efficiency (QE) is essential for understanding current generation, recombination, and diffusion mechanisms in photovoltaic devices. PV cell and module calibrations often require a spectral correction factor that uses the QE. The quantum efficiency in units of electron-hole pairs collected per incident photon is computed from the measured spectral response in units of amperes per watt as a function of wavelength.

This instrument is integrated with a 300W Xenon lamp with SQR 250FA single grating high-resolution monochromator, coupling directional optics, power supply, and easy-to-use software with the capability to measure dark and lighted IV characteristics of solar cells and quantum efficiency measurement in 360 - 1100 nm range.

The system includes a sample stage, capable of accommodating samples up to 25 mm diameter and probes to contact the sample. Light is normally incident on the sample. Fixed frequency chopper and a built-in lock-in amplifier circuit are used for modulating the light at a frequency of 86 Hz for measuring spectral response. The wavelength resolution of the monochromator is 0.1 nm. The illumination area can be adjusted using a lens assembly system.

It can also be used to characterize / measure imaging systems (cameras) and other detectors in terms of linearity range, spatial non-uniformity of response (the variation of responsivity across the active area of a detector), etc. Detector characterization allows the identification of the detector with the best performance for a particular application.
